The Department Head of Architecture and City Planning organized a technical trip to the Nevşehir Archaeological Museum and Şenyavuz Forest Products (Avanos) Enterprise within the scope of the course of “Causes of Masonry Building and Conservation” to the students of the architectural restoration program.
During the trip, Head of Department Lecturer Barış Emre SÖNMEZ informed the students about the establishment and development of the Nevşehir Archaeological Museum. Later, he explained the historical process of architecture, ceramics, and sculptors present in the museum. Finally, he made important assessments within the scope of the restoration. Wood products, types of wood (hard and softwood trees), genera of wood (Cedrus, Pinus, Abies, Picea, etc.), and the necessary samples related to the preservation was shown by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ata ESKİN in the scope of the Causes of Masonry Building and Conservation course.
Hamit ŞENYAVUZ, who is the owner of Şenyavuz Forest Products, carried out the introduction, cutting, and processing of wood material. Then, he coated the woodblock with resin. Thus, a practical study was made for students to protect wood products against diseases and pests for a long time. The students thanked Hamit Şenyavuz for his presentation.
We would like to express our thanks to Lecturer Barış Emre SÖNMEZ and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ata ESKİN for showing the necessary dedication and effort in providing technical trip opportunities to our students.
